Just How Many Things (2)
He had gone back to work at Hölburtt & Co. after the exact number of weeks’ rest his doctor advised and felt eager to rejoin his routine
We will have cheaper rent for a couple of months, at the expense of spare room/studio space. Doing a slow-burn preparation for the move. Pulling stuff out of storage. (After living out of a suitcase for 2½ years having to deal with stuff is annoying.) All my clothes have gone out of style.
Day 16 of isolation. My sleep schedule has definitely fallen apart. Did my first Sad Bastard Cookbook grocery shop and feel like I cheated capitalism. Watched Mickey 17. Still find myself oddly drawn to learning CGI. Wondering if I’d enjoy it as much as Mojolicious.
Finally finished reading a single webpage about vector maths in Godot, started 21 May. Hope this is not an omen. Rewatched A Most Violent Year, which was more enjoyable knowing it does not actually span a year.
My search for a replacement breakfast to scrambled eggs (cholesterol) continues. As does my new routine of walking for the length of two albums. (Glad to find this burns more kj than a 20 min jog.) Looking forward to doing this in Paddington. Now playing:
My GP wants to see me for a non-urgent appointment, which I don’t like. Walked around the house with iPod on listening to Arooj Aftab for 8K steps. Watched Boiling Point, which was 95 minutes of stress. Now playing:

Things were different after he had been shot. The bullet had pierced his heart, an injury he would have believed, if he ever had reason to think about it, that a person could not survive, and yet here he was today
Getting a lot of enjoyment out of my tilde account. Added the viewport
meta value so things are readable on my phone. Improved my wikilinks to link from [[page]]
to page.html
and [[page/]]
to page/
. Watched To Die For. Now playing:
WordPress
The transition to WordPress for my portfolio has been positive, despite mixed feelings about relying on Jetpack for additional features.
The labour of archiving webpages previously saved with Pocket continues. A problem encountered is half the sites block me as an scraper bot. Wondering if I should also save a “reader” version with rdrview
.
Solved my webpage archiving problem.
wget -k -O "$tmpfile" "$url"
tidy -ashtml < "$tmpfile" 2>/dev/null | sed '/<script/,/<\/script>/d'
Watched Zola and Sicario. Had a dream last night I installed XQuartz. What is wrong with me?
Hit a snag with my plan to just use curl
to archive webpages.
curl -sL [URL] | sed 's/<script[^>]*<\/script>//'
This won’t strip JavaScript between <script>
tags on multiple lines. I think I need to install something like jq
for SGML.
I should not have had a coffee at 10:30pm last night. Watched A Quiet Place: Part II and Sinners. Avoided reckoning with my own mortality by figuring out how to archive webpages with curl
, sed
and sh

Getting a little frustrated with the memory leak in Shiori. Considering removing Jetpack and disconnecting WordPress.com from my portfolio. I like my microblog because I have no idea if anyone’s reading it. Think up what else I can use tilde.institute for.
My new plaintext website: rnkn.tilde.institute
Forked lowdown and made what I thought was a worthwhile change to indent both margins for blockquotes (which I like better). Then checked all the major style guides:
- APA: indent left margin only
- Chicago Manual of Style: indent left margin only
- MLA: indent left margin only
Disappointing.
Continuing the practice Brian Eno and Lawrence use of beginning the day by producing output (e.g. writing) before taking input (e.g. breakfast, reading the internet). Finished writing about Bill Henson and the Sublime. Rewatched Highlander, which is really not a good movie.
Read about Schopenhauer and went searching for a David Foster Wallace quote about boredom that I didn’t end up using. Wrote about the Sublime. Rewatched Knight and Day, which wasn’t as good as I remember. Ate a whole bag of microwave popcorn.
SUBJECT: NEW HOME — ICE FORTRESS ONE
Dear friends,
As some of you will undoubtedly be aware, a one-trillion ton iceberg the size of the US state of Delaware has broken from the Larsen C Ice Shelf of Antarctica.
Divided the day between reading about Bill Henson and trying to increase the items-per-page count on my website (succeeded, eventually). Adjusted the CSS on blockquotes to look better — I have opinions about how blockquotes should look. Also collated and posted my Mark Zuckerberg fan fiction.
